Research
CEMIT was created with the overarching goal to promote environmental health and human health. The following vision and mission guide the plan and execution of our research and development activities.
Vision
To study the environment, discover how the environment impacts people, and develop solutions to promote healthier lives.
Mission
To lead multidisciplinary research and education in environmental monitoring, conduct research on exposome, metabolome, microbiome, and the associated data science, and promote precision environmental health by developing innovative technology solutions.
Primary Research Areas
- Develop nanotechnology-based portable devices for onsite and at-home targeted environmental and biological monitoring for studying environmental health and how the environment affects human health. Portable technologies will empower the general public to monitor their exposures to environmental factors.
- Use mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) for untargeted environmental and biological monitoring as well as use such existing data for comprehensive understanding of environmental health and how the environment affects human health.
- Apply data science to discover associations between the environment and human health and build informatics tools and resources to facilitate such research and distribute research results.
- Develop engineering technologies to mitigate negative impacts of the environment on human health.
